Lap Desks come in a variety of sizes, shapes, materials, and colors to please the most discriminating taste and to facilitate a number of general as well as very specific tasks. Some are large enough for a wide variety of uses, while others are somewhat smaller and specifically formed to easily fit pack in a laptop case.
Lap Desks designed specifically for computer keyboards or laptops frequently incorporate features to reduce heat build up, thus prolonging computer life. Many provide wrist rests for enhanced ergonomics. While many lap desks are rectangular in shape, some models are now designed to curve around the user and are often called “European” or “Euro” designs.
Available Lap Desk materials are wood, plastic and composite tops. Almost all have some sort of pillow or pads on the bottom that allow the lap desk to conform to the lap of the user. Some original designs actually used natural beans for the filling of these cushions or pillows, hence the name “bean bag lap desks”. Today, almost all lap desks pillows are filled with some sort of man-made material that is light in weight and easy to maintain.
Lap desks are called by many names, including: personal desk, personal writing desk, lap tray, mobile desk, laptop lap desk, computer desk, laptop desk, laptop desk stand, to name but a few. Keep in mind your uses, and you’re bound to find the lap desk that’s right.
