Hinder Dog From Biting

March 30, 2010

Do you own a dog that bites? Then it is time you took measures to stop dog biting. There is great threat in letting it to continue unchecked, only because you think it is just harmless nipping. Playful nipping will finally, end up as very serious and damaging biting.

No animal owner should have a pet dog that may harm children, the guests or anyone who just happens to be there. If your doggy has a biting problem then you must do something to stop it. Not correcting the situation will definitely land you in serious trouble.

If your puppy is likely to bite and is out unsupervised, it can bite children, passers by, and anyone on the street, and causes bad wounds, the authorities would have it put down because it is a hazardous animal, and you end up being paying for the damages. In order to avoid things of such grievous nature happening to your friends, you and your doggy, the answer is puppy training biting.

Biting is a negative behavior pattern in dogs and is best handled when the dog is a few weeks old. All pups love to chew, so to begin with, we must have an sufficient supply of chew toys around. This goes a long way into stopping a puppy mouthing everything it can place its fangs around, simply because mouthing is the inception of all biting problems.

If your dog was at least for a few months with its mother it would have learned along with its litter mates, how to hold back its biting tendencies. If a mother dog is bitten by one of the litter, the mother will yell. The puppy is astonished and concerned at its mother’s reaction, and when he bites her the second time his mother would screech louder with a snarl and starts, ignoring the biting puppy.

This is how puppies get to know that they cannot use that thrust with their jaws and teeth, and if even with this lesson, the puppy continues to bite its mother, she will react with anger. Thus the puppy gets to know from its mother and siblings in the social pack that the urge to bite has to be controlled.

Given that we have removed the puppy from this born training environment, we would have to assume the role of its mother, and take steps to stop the dog biting. The way us humans could make use of to complete these ‘you cannot bite’ classes would be to yelp in a high-pitched voice every time the puppy tries to snap or bite us anywhere on our body, or the clothes we are wearing. A tiny bit of stretching the truth will go a long way in getting the point across. If the nipping continues, start taking no notice the puppy after the ‘yelp’ and refuse to play with it. The pup will soon get to know that biting leads to all the fun and affection being stopped, and will realize that forceful chomping is not correct behavior pattern.

Another way to stop puppy from mouthing is to use a muzzle. For all appearances, this may look a bit harsh or extreme, but it is not. A muzzle will not harm the doggy in any way. It just does not allow it from opening its gob wide enough to bite anything. The puppy will soon discover the reason why it has been muzzled, and will soon learn. Every dog owner must keep in mind, that, a dog that bites, is one of the most dangerous dog problems, which any canine owner could be plagued with. Play biting can lead to real harmful biting and steps to stop dog biting must be implemented before anything seriously bad takes place..
