The Distinct PEX Fittings Methods Applied In PEX Water Delivery Schemes
March 13, 2010
The flexibility and strength of tubing constructed of high density polyethylene material and coupled by PEX fittings provides many advantages over plumbing arrangements employing metal or rigid plastic pipes. PEX tubes do not corrode and withstand cold temperatures without becoming brittle. They cost less than copper or plastic piping. They are much simpler to install because they are stored in spools and need fewer fittings.
In cold temperatures PEX pipes retain their flexibility and do not become delicate and break. Unlike metal pipes, PEX tubes will not rust and will not acquire scale. PEX tubing is energy cost-effective as well because they will not conduct heat.
PEX tubing is wrapped in reels. Because spools weigh less than cut metal or plastic pipes, they are simpler to store and cost less to ship. Tubing can be wound off from the spools with no need for coupling fittings. Installing is much quicker and less pricey when it does not involve the installation of pipe.
There are a variety of joining methods used in installing PEX systems. Some of these techniques are proprietary and some require special tools. Basically, the fitting is put over the tube or in the tube and then a ring is pinched around the pipe or fitting making a tight fit. The rings can be built of various metals or plastic depending on he joining method.
The tools you will use when installing PEX are a PEX pipe cutter, a main crimping tool and a de-crimping tool. The PEX pipe cutter comes in different sizes for 1/2″ and 3/4″ size pipes. Rings are crimped utilizing the crimping tool. The de-crimping tool is utilised for removing rings from pipes or fittings.
Fittings are commonly constructed of brass, although there are some made of bronze, copper and engineered plastic fittings for PEX plumbing. There are distinctive ridges on the “insert” part of the fitting. The ridges, the PEX tube and the crimped copper ring all work in concert to form a high-pressure seal.
Water plumbing arrangements that take advantage of PEX tubing and PEX fittings have definite benefits. The materials are less costly than metal and plastic pipes. Fewer fittings are required. The Installation process is simpler and shorter. Your system will never corrode or crack so it will last longer with less potential problems.
