Business Networking Tip: How to make your 30 second self introduction the best ever heard!
How is there a referral in every elevator speech?

Self introductions will get you referrals at every business networking event you attend, after you read this article. EVERY TIME, WITHOUT EXCEPTION! A bold statement? You betcha. Now let’s see how.

To make this work, you will need 3 things:

   1. A pad of paper
   2. A willingness to help others
   3. A follow-up database

This is what you have to do: Listen to every self introduction delivered with an intention to help that person with a referral.

A quick distinction about referrals. Not every referral needs to be a customer. Referrals can be:

  • Other networking and leads organizations
  • Resources that may be helpful to them
  • Books that may help them (This is my personal favorite!)
  • Referral partners
  • Direct Business
  • Expertise and Advice
  • Go wild and use your imagination

Most people are thinking about what to say in their 30 second self intoduction. Most people are really afraid to speak in front of the public adn maybe having an anxiety attack while waiting their turn. No matter how their elevator speech is, you’ll get and idea of what they do or what their business is and how you can help them.

For every person that attends the event, take a note. Write down their name and what comes to mind during their self introduction to help them grow their business. After the meeting, mixer or business networking event contact the person and share the referral. Make sure you really connect and get to know the person. Add them to your database and newsletter list, if appropiate.

You will find every business networking event produces 1 to 3 direct referrals for every 20 people you directly contact using this method. These leads will typically show up within 45 to 60 days. Try it and see what happens. By helping others, you’ll feel better about yourself.

Business Networking and Business Events Only. Why is that?

NetworkingEventFinders only publishes business and business networking events

Here’s Why:

  • Our passions are Business and Networking
  • Our talents are Business and Networking
  • We’re tired of searching through festivals, concerts and single’s events to find business networking events
  • We’re older and our “partying days” are mostly over
  • We’re don’t want to attend business networking events that are really MLM recruiting events, buiness seminars and opportunity meetings.
  • We’re too easily distracted and searching for business networking events led us to some cool websites, but wasted tons of our time
  • We’re tired of typing in our email address all the time to sign in to get business networking event information
  • We got tired of “self interest” sites where publishers mainly promoted their own events, programs and seminars

So about 18 months ago, Mindy Selinger & Terry Hall set out to design and build a global business networking websites where it’s FREE to find and promote local networking events. The beta site of Networking Event Finders launched in October of 2008 with the full site launch in March of 2009.

Just like all business, we’ve learned what does and doesn’t work for an on line business. Mostly we’ve learned that Networking Event Finders is needed more than ever. We’re filling the need for an independent business and business networking events publisher. We have proof of concept. We’ve proven our ability to design, maintain and promote a Network of 60+ Business Networking Sites. Over 800 people a day are looking for what we publish. And we’ve only been around for just over a year. Our popularity is positioned to explode in the beginning of 2010. We could use your help.

We’re offering a Win/Win opportunity, that’s the best part. These are the three ways you can help:

   1. Let your networks know that we’re here and invite them to add their networking events to our calendars.
   2. Consider being a Local Editor for your networking guide.
   3. Help us find advertisers.

By helping us we’ll be able to improve our publication by offering more events and a wider variety of business networking events. When these happen we all win with greater exposure and more options to grow and expand our businesses.

Moms, Inc, a new player in Business Networking in Maryland

Necessity being the “mother” of invention, Nancy Daniel started Moms Inc.org three years ago in Howard County, Maryland, for moms who have a home-based business or want to start one.

During this past summer I received several inquiries looking for kid friendly business networking groups for work at home moms in Denver so I put out a national query. I didn’t get very many responses. I’m so happy to hear about this one.  I’m hoping that the publicity this local group receives from being in our national newsletter will help shed light on more small groups like this. We want to get them on the calendar and give them some exposure!

Stay at home moms with businesses face a unique set of obstacles. They need a place where they can get support and guidance in their unrelated and frequently conflicting endeavors, business and motherhood. Moms, Inc., and groups like them, are answering a need that more and more women are experiencing.  Moms, Inc. is connecting moms with home based businesses with the resources and knowledge of women who are making similar lifestyle choices. Moms, Inc. chapters have one informal meeting a month. Meetings are always free and annual dues are kept at a minimum. Kids are always welcome at the meetings. From a mere handful of members to three chapters in Maryland in three short years, with additional chapters being planned in other states, Moms, Inc. has blossomed. For business networking, support and friendship, Moms, Inc. is the place for moms with home based businesses. Family are Moms, Inc. members first priority, but they also take their businesses seriously. If you know of any other such small, grass-roots group please leave a comment and tell us about them!
