Vintage Sewing Machine: Enjoy an Everchanging Inheritance

November 24, 2009

Growing up, I often hear the buzz of my Grandmother’s antique sewing machine. Though it seemed really medieval, it was gorgeous and stylish. My grandmother mentioned that she got the sewing machine from her Aunt who trained her how to use the machine. Everyday, she always appeared to have sewing projects ranging from pillows and curtains to attire. Sometimes, I would also see my mother give granny’s antique sewing machine a try. Mutually, they made several beautiful designs that I have always treasured until this day.

When my parents passed away, I inherited almost everything including my loving grandmother’s beautiful antique singer sewing machines. I was so surprised at how gorgeous it still appears. And the most amazing thing about it is that it works flawlessly albeit slow. Thankfully, my mother had a ability for keeping valuables undamaged and preserved.

One day while I was surfing the internet, I came across a photo of the antique singer sewing machines that looked like the one I inherited from my grandmother. It turns out that I own an antique sewing machine from Singer. The specific model that I have was named The Family or more distinctively known as The Turtleback. A uncommon piece, the Turtleback has been hunted by lots of antique collectors who are prepared to pay huge amount for it. Because of my surprising discovery, I adored my antique sewing machine even more. Eventually I became addicted into finding more information about various antique sewing machines that made a mark in the textile industry as well as in the lives of millions of households. By then my interest for these wonderful machines grew and I began collecting earlier models of sewing machines as well.

After many flea markets, classified ads, and online auctions later, I have bought several antique sewing machines that are truly coveted of many antique collectors. What’s so great about my acquirement’s are that they are mostly in perfect shape. Though some of them need a bit of maintenance, my antique sewing machines appear delightful.
