Invest in Quality Knives for Better Food Preparation

November 15, 2009

Now in it’s second century, Farberware manufactures and sells many kitchen gadgets and accessories running the gamut from small appliances to tableware to food storage containers. One of its successful product lines is kitchen knives, which consist of five series. As seen on the company’s website, these five are the Farberware Millennium, the Stainless Soft Grip, the Farberware Classic Series, the Farberware Professional and the Farberware kitchen knife sets, all of which feature lifetime limited warranties.

Product Features

The Millennium series is made with stainless steel handles and fine-edged blades that are dishwasher-safe, renedering them more convenient to own than many high-priced knives. The Stainless Soft Grip series includes the same qualities as the Millennium series aside from the issue that hand washing is recommended. The Professional Series can boast about the same qualities as the aforementioned series with the added feature that professional series handles use three rivets to add durability and strength.

The Classic Series and the Ultraedge Pro Series of the Farberware kitchen knife set apparently call for no blade sharpening due to their high-carbon stainless steel blades, that are now arguably the most popular materials for cutlery recently. With their non-slip handles formed from polypropylene, and Faberware makes a great product. The only thing you should remember, though, is which Faberware knife set recommends hand washing instead of dishwasher cleaning.

Advantages

Well, if you might be the sort who won’t normally wash knives as you finish, but prefer to place your cutlery into your dishwasher, the Farberware Millenium knives are perfect for you. Still, you ought to realize that even the best grade steel will rust after too many exposures to the soaps which are found in the dishwasher.

Additionally, some of the Farberware knives are made of high-carbon stainless steel, which has proven to be highly-resistant to stains and rust. While it is not as straightforward to sharpen as normal stainless steel edges, the advertized “no need for sharpening” quality easily offsets it.

The Cuisinart blades are always forged, not cold rolled, which results in exceptionally balanced knives that lay light in your hands but heavy on the cutting jobs. Of course, these features are present with most forged knives, so this isn’t much to get excited about.

And, if you are the type who wants to have identical knives but mislays them more than usual, you may be happy to find out that the components of any Faberware knife set can be replaced at any better retailer across the country. Don’t forget, Farberware is practically everywhere!

Disadvantages

The fairly thin handles of many components in a Faberware knife set can be some difficulty for users with large hands. Although the blades do their job satisfactorily most of the time, getting a safe grip on the handles can be an issue, particularly when your hands are wet.

An unfortunate aspect of the “no need for sharpening” characteristic, this might apply only to successive uses, because you still are required to sharpen the knives as soon as they’re out of their boxes. Once they’re sharpened, you can merely do the maintenance to maintain these knives as properly as possible. (For the most part, the “no need for sharpening” claim is just a marketing gimmick)

The final verdict on a Faberware kitchen knife set: It’s an average set of cutlery which might be acquired for an average price. If you perform more professional kitchen jobs, you could just as well invest more money to get top-of-the-line knives. For everyday jobs in a home, a Farberware cutlery set will serve just fine.
