Having Instant Hot Water In Your Home

November 6, 2009

When you are cold, wet and dirty, there is nothing like having hot water on demand to take a shower. It can feel like heaven to step into a hot bath or shower to just soak in the heat to warm yourself up, while washing away all the dirt from a long day.

One of the best ways to solve this problem is to switch from a regular hot water storage tank heating system to an instant hot water heater. With instant hot water heaters, it is literally hot water on demand! You turn on the heater, step into your shower, and hot water starts flowing out to warm you up and get you clean.

These type of water heaters come in two versions: The electric tankless water heater and the gas tankless water heater. Both have their pros and cons.

The Electric Tankless Water Heater

Using a tankless water heater that runs on electricity is safer when compared to using gas. There is nothing to burn, so there is nothing flammable that becomes a fire hazard in your home. The electric tankless water heater, however, is not as efficient as one that uses natural gas or propane. There is a loss of energy when electricity is used to heat up your water!

The Natural Gas Tankless Water Heater

When it comes to gas tankless hot water heaters, you can choose between several models that use natural gas or propane. The one issue with using gas tankless water heaters is having to check your local regulations before installing one. You are also using actual flames to heat up water for use, unlike the electric tankless water heater.

In Summary

Having an instant water heater in your home can be a great boon, especially if you do not want to wait for hot water to take a shower. Make sure you check your average hot water usage in your home, and get the right sized instant hot water heater. And if you are using a gas tankless water heater, check your local regulations before you head out to your nearest home improvement store.
