Aquatic Weed Control Methods

If you have a pond then odds are you currently know precisely what an aquatic plant is. They hide either at the bottom of your pond, sneak in on the banks of the water, or sit proudly at the surface. There is a probability that the engine on your motorboat would be jammed by plants, fishing would end in reeling in plant life living at the bottom, and swimming would be out of the question because the pond will appear just plain ugly drenched in both seaweed as well as lily pads.
So by what method do you prevent it from occurring? There are many methods, and of course it is better that you consult an expert, and much more important, the laws of your state prior to doing anything drastic. Regardless of any stipulations you might come across though, there are ways to rescue your beloved pond.

Herbicides – There’s naturally, chemicals that you can utilize to reduce the plant growth in both beneath the water, and atop the water. They’re called herbicides, and some of the more popular variants will contain copper or fluoride. Remember that some of those herbicides, especially those variants that contain copper, may be harmful for fish. It is also suggested to keep your family out of the water while you’re administering these chemicals.
Topography – If you dig the pond on a steep incline, you can stop the growth of some plant life, since with a steep incline, those plants won’t be able to take root. Of course, the steep incline means there is no space for mistakes while swimming, so it is suggested that you keep life preservers on hand, in addition to having your family wear life jackets while in the pond.
Shading – A more peculiar technique, would be to lay plastic atop your pond, thereby filtering the volume of natural light which services those aquatic plants.
Pond Lining – An approach which not too many think of, is laying plastic on the bottom of the pond, making it so that the aquatic plants are not able to flourish. If you’ve a big body of water, this might be sort of impractical due to the huge amount of plastic you need. Naturally if it’s just a tiny pond then you’ll probably have no issue doing it.
