Why you should order a Thyroid test.
A Thyroid test in the body includes T4, T3, and TSH. T3 and T4 circulate in the blood bound and linked to molecules of protein. The unbound T3 and T4 represents the bodys thyroid levels. Thyroid levels of hormones that are free react with cell receptors.
In hypothyroidism, blood thyroid levels are low.. Excess TSH is released by the pituitary gland and thyroid levels of TSH rise. A Thyroid test is performed when blood TSH thyroid levels are low, often kept down to levlels below 0.01 mIU per L, hyperthyroidism occurs. Due to a six week blood to test result period, thyroid function or abnormal thyroid hormone levels may appear normal. Due to this, an FT3 and FT4 thyroid level test needs to be performed.
You can only expect to find a small amount of T3 that is produced by the thyroid gland. The peripheral tissue of the liver manufactures T3 by the conversion of T4 to T3.
