The Dell Inspiron 910 Mini Experience

That’s the experience with the Inspiron 910 Mini not the mini-experience! Well I am in web design and have been toying with the idea of getting a more modern laptop as my old Dell Inspiron from 2003 is as heavy as a brick. My step dad just bought a top of the range Toshiba Portege at around £1,200, but he’s at that time in life where 1,200 quid is affordable, where as I’m still in financial recovery from my last divorce (yes there was more than one!)! So I happened across the Dell Inspiron 910 Mini on the Dell website whilst looking at specs of normal laptops to use when out and about demonstrating our CMS system to potential clients, wow £299 inc VAT and delivery that is a bargain!
There I was credit card at the ready, wrist twitching, hang on I thought, why am I buying this, do I really need it? No, I don’t NEED it I just WANT ONE . [Puts credit card away]
The next day I happen to have to work on my step Dads’ ultra lightweight new laptop, wow this is lush, so light, I wish I could afford one.
The next day I had to go to a clients with my laptop, and about put my back out trying to put it in the car passenger foot well whilst sitting in the drivers’ seat, hmm decided I do have a NEED for the new dell Inspiron mini after all! It only weights around 1kg. So as I had a management meeting that afternoon I informed my finance manager I would be ordering one and that was that. So Friday October 3rd I placed the order on the Dell website, and on the 8th I got back from a client meeting at Biffa the UK’s preferred provider of glass recycling services to find a Dell cardboard box on my desk, I thought it couldn’t possibly be the new mini as the confirmation email I got said it would arrive on or around the 20th October, but sure enough it really had arrived.
Well I was ecstatic and got it out and started setting it up straight away, you know remove Dell Support Centre and install Avast Anti Virus, that kind of thing. As it has an integrated web cam I also downloaded Windows Live Messenger and had a quick video chat with my girlfriend whilst she was doing her ironing, fantastic!
So I googled ‘mobile broadband suppliers’ and toyed with ordering the USB dongle from Three, as their 5GB monthly allowance is only 15 quid a month so the best looking deal, providing those coverage stories you hear about Three Mobile are not really true!
Anyway, it was soon time to go and get my daughter from school so I thought yeah I’ll take it with me and even though I don’t have the mobile broadband USB Modem yet I can continue configuring it in car park if I’m early. I was early, so I turned it on, it said:
Windows could not start because of an error in the software.

Ah dear, it was great fun whilst it lasted, then followed a 2 and a half hour telethon with Dell support in India 
Apparently they were so quick to ship it to me that my service tag isn’t on their system yet. They suggested I called back in 24-48 hours, well I explained to them exactly what I thought of their suggestion as I’m sure you can image, but to no avail. I did indeed have to call back today and they have agreed to send me a replacement unit as it is within 7 days of delivery.
I hope the replacement arrives as quickly as the original unit did…
So conclusion? Apart from the fact it doesn’t work (a faulty drive in my opinion) and for the life of me I can’t get it to boot from an external drive or USB key (it doesn’t have a CD or DVD drive you know) it feels really solid, looks lovely, and is nice to handle (sounds a bit like the ideal companion to an i-phone 2.0 doesn’t it!).
Like most reviewers have experienced, the keys are small (but blackberry users manage and they are larger than those keys) and the right shift key is tiny and means you can’t type an @ in the usual fashion. But the screen is nice, 3 USB slots, a monitor connector, Ethernet and earphones and mic connectors although it has both speakers and mic internally so you can video conference without having to plug anything in.
On the whole, I would recommend it, providing you get one that boots up! I am also yet to try it with LogMeIn which is my preferred way of dealing with how to access emails, lots of passwords, specialist software and all that kind of thing when you are out and about. Possibly the screen is going to be too small to be able to work with for extended periods of time, but I’ll let you know when the replacement arrives and I have had chance to give it a proper testing, assuming that one doesn’t break on me as soon as I start urm ‘configuring’ it!

Directories are special websites that list other sites that visitors may be interested in and are usually hand edited so they have additional authoritative weight in the search engine formulas. There are software applications that can help with the mundane process of filling out directory web forms. One of the least expensive is Directory Site Submitter.
Directory Site Submitter will allow you to set up and manage multiple projects with multiple websites per project and then help you submit to over 400 free of charge directories. The backlinks from these sites will be helpful for SEO reasons more than actual traffic.
2. Another solution is to give away something of value that contains your link. Articles are very popular since so many people need web content. They are inexpensive to write and can be effective at building one-way links to your site.
3. Steer clear of purchasing links on websites for SEO purposes. It can cost up to $100 a month or more to put your link on a high ranked site and it still might not count in the search engine formula. Google has repeatedly said that purchasing direct links will not be of benefit for SEO. But, you may still use this technique to drive visitors from a high traffic site to your website.
The truth of the matter is that if you are working to build long term income, it is going to take a while before your web site becomes profitable. A long term strategy for a website might take six months or even a year for it to start generating income. It is also essential to start getting back links at once. Choose your links cautiously. Citi Bites the Construction Loan Dust Despite Profits

Citi Mortgage has officially bit the dust no different than all of the other lenders like Indy Mac Bank. Citi Mortgage Group Bank has failed just like all the the other failed banking institutions in helping families build the American dream.
A true tell tale sign whether a banking institution is in major financial trouble and my be the next buy out is when the bank closes a low risk profit center like their construction loan department.
Construction loans are the back bone and a key strength indicator of not only the bank but of the entire economy and since most large national banks have mostly closed down their construction loan departments nationwide the economy is definitely in unforeseeable trouble.
Where will the American family turn to in obtaining financing to build their dream home over the the next couple of years? Do these families that want to build their dream home have poor credit risk? Do they not bring enough equity or down payment to the table? Do these families have low liquid assets in their bank accounts to protect the risk of any default? Are these loan requests stated income loans?
The answer to all the above questions is almost always no and by all means may be the least riskiest loan request in the entire mortgage industry today. So CitiGroup has dropped the ball big time and failed just like Chase, Indy Mac Bank, Flagstar, First Horizon, National City and a whole lot of other banks that sold out the American public and the entire mortgage industry.
The only reason I believe this has happened was to protect the Ceo’s golden parachute payoffs.
How To Get Out Of The Rat Race

The most popular topic of conversation these days is the stock market turmoil and how and where it is impacting the lives of those you know and love. By and large the people who are having these conversations are the ones that haven’t learnt how to get out of the Rat Race yet.
I have no words of wisdom about what to do with your specific investments. There are others far more qualified to help you there.
All I can do is continue to beating the drum about being prepared for life’s eventualities. For example “What would happen if your income was reduced and/or eliminated unexpectedly?”
Here’s a little reality check for you. Why not have an imaginary “fire drill”? Why not pretend you had to live on one income or half what you make. Give it a try. I know it will open your eyes or at the very least give you a long overdue reality check.
Believe it or not there are some people who are not too concerned about all that is going on in the markets right now because they have already learnt how to get out of the Rat Race
If they lost their jobs or had a decrease in their income it wouldn’t be much of a catastrophe because they have already learnt how to get out of the Rat Race by creating their Plan B already.
