Which a better deal

After deciding on ‘how much’ and ‘how far’ aspects as per above, you may call some moving companies and ask for an estimated quote over the phone. The moving companies will also suggest coming over to your place to check and then give an estimated quote, which you could consider. You could even look for the online quotes from moving companies through movingestimates.com, if you want to save on your time. The quotes are estimates and not guaranteed though they may seem close to accuracy.
- The time that would take to do the packing yourself, load them up a vehicle and drive it upto your destination.
- Do you have helping hands like neighbors, relatives, colleagues and friends?
- Do you trust yourself and your folks to move your goods and items safely?
- Can you move the extraordinary, fragile and precious items yourself? Or do you think you should let the specialists handle them?
- There are costs apart from just the moving essentials. You may have to spend on buying packing supplies, getting an additional insurance or buying an airline ticket for yourself. These are the hidden costs. Are you aware to what extent they can come into play when you move?
- Will I have to arrange for extra equipment or employ some more people to handle big items like heavy appliances?
- Is it not a good idea to make a claim on my move on my tax return, if I take the help of the moving company?
How Far do you have to move?

How far?
This will be the rate charged on the cost to rent a truck to move from your departure point to the destination point. Also there will be a cost charged accordingly if you are using the one way facility or the return facility. Apart from the truck rental cost, you also have to bear the cost of the mileage and the gas. Online, you can use ‘distance calculators’ which can provide estimates on how far you will be commuting and ‘fuel calculators’ which will state how much you will be paying to fill up the gas tank. Add both the costs to the truck rental fee.
How Much Stuff you have to move?

How much?
This would mean the amount of stuff you have to move. You should have a general idea of how much it could cost to move the amount of stuff you move? You can make a list of ‘moveable’ items that you have in your respective rooms of your house. You can also use the truck-size guide, the rental agencies give. For example U-Haul, the Do-it-Yourself movers give you the following list or guide of truck sizes:
26′ will move 4+ bedrooms
17′ will move 2-3 bedrooms
14′ will move 1-2 bedrooms
10′ will move an apartment
